Direct Reduction of Chromite Technology from Innovation to Commercialization
Direct Reduction of Chromite (DRC) Technology

DRC process invented in 2017 and developed as a new technology during 2018-2024 at a Canadian federal research centre.
DRC process is feasible as a novel technology in converting chromite ore to high quality ferrochrome.
Ferrochrome is produced at temperatures much lower than those typical of smelting technologies.
Its energy requirements and GHG emissions are lower than those of the conventional smelting technologies.
DRC has lower OPEX and CAPEX in comparison to most advanced smelting technologies.
It is potentially a near zero-waste technology.

DRC is an innovation stage technology requiring demonstration of its commercial feasibility.
Technology readiness of the process is at TRL-7 meaning that the technology is proven and ready for demonstration.

DRC will ensure that the world-class Ring of Fire chromite resources are developed and reach world markets as value-added products in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Chromium is a Critical Mineral/Metal in North America.

KromTech aims to revolutionize ferrochrome production with its Direct Reduction of Chromite (DRC) process, offering an efficient, sustainable, and cutting-edge alternative to traditional methods. As pioneers of next-generation green ferrochrome solutions, we empower the ferrochrome and stainless-steel industries to transition toward cleaner, more responsible metallurgical practices while creating long-term value for stakeholders.
