KromTech Selected by Ontario's Critical Minerals Innovation Fund to Advance Green Ferrochrome Technology*

KromTech Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Government of Ontario as one of eighteen projects supported through the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF), a provincial initiative that advances innovative technologies and strengthens Ontario's critical minerals sector.
The CMIF-supported project will advance KromTech's Direct Reduction of Chromite (DRC) technology through pre-pilot engineering studies, including process engineering, process optimization, quantitative process flow development, and updated technoeconomic and environmental assessments. These activities will provide the engineering foundation for a future pilot-scale demonstration of the technology.
The DRC process is an innovative alternative to conventional ferrochrome smelting. Developed in Canada, it has demonstrated the potential to significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, while lowering capital and operating costs and significantly reducing waste generation.
Ontario's Ring of Fire contains one of the world's largest undeveloped chromite resources. Unlocking these resources sustainably will require innovative value-added processing technologies. KromTech's DRC process aims to establish a domestic, low-carbon pathway from chromite to ferrochrome, strengthening Ontario's critical minerals supply chain and supporting future stainless steel and advanced manufacturing industries.

The project aligns with Ontario's Critical Minerals Strategy by supporting innovation, strengthening supply chain resiliency, and creating the technical foundation for future private investment and commercialization.
